Ida Faye Chambliss

Ida Faye Chambliss, affectionately known as “Faye,” departed this life unexpectedly on August 31, 2026, at Froedtert Advanced Care Center, at the age of 73.

Faye was born on October 6, 1952, in Meridian, Mississippi, to the late Luerilla (Nee:Chambliss) McKenney and Ezelle Moore. She was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, church leader, and friend. Her life was a beautiful testament to her faith, her commitment to service, and her love for others.

Faye was a proud graduate of Washington Park High School, Class of 1970. She continued her education at Gateway Technical College, where she earned an Associate Degree. She dedicated 24 years of service to Ascension All Saints Hospital, where she worked as a Customer Resource Specialist until her retirement in October 2018.

Faye was a faithful member of Greater St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church for 57 years. Throughout her many years of membership, she devoted herself wholeheartedly to serving God, her church, and her community.

She was a member of the Greater St. Luke Gospel Choir and began her ushering ministry as a member of the Young Adult Usher Board. In 2001, she transitioned to the Senior Usher Board, where she faithfully served as President until her passing.

Her dedication to ushering ministry extended far beyond her local church. Faye served as Vice President of the Racine/Kenosha District Usher Board and held numerous leadership positions within the United Church Ushers Association of Wisconsin, Inc., including serving as State President.

Throughout her years of service, Faye served on the Sick Committee, Assistant Financial Secretary, Financial Secretary on the Board of Directors, Second Vice President, and First Vice President. She was also a dedicated member of the United Church Ushers Association of Wisconsin Choir.

On the national level, Faye was a devoted member of the National United Church Ushers Association of America, Inc. She proudly sang with the Henry Ballard Choir, served on the Election Committee, and actively participated in floor demonstrations and drill competitions at national conventions.

Her unwavering commitment, leadership, and faithful service earned her numerous accolades and the love, respect, and admiration of countless individuals throughout Wisconsin and across the nation.

Outside of her professional and church commitments, Faye enjoyed traveling, cooking, baking cakes, watching soap operas, and, most importantly, spending time with her family. Family was at the center of her heart, and she treasured every moment shared with those she loved.

Faye leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving daughters, Cassandra (Kenneth) McClain and Catrice (Demetrius) Gray; her beloved grandchildren, Catrell Woods, Camilla Woods, Carissa Woods, Ca’Niyah Gray, Derrion “DJ” Gray, and Ca’Lani Gray; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Cameron, Cam’Ariyah, Montez Jr., Cameron Jr., Mahkari, Malik, CaLeigha, and Ta’Heiri.

She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Jones; brothers, Robert Johnson, Douglas (Dalphna) Harris, and Brian “Felix” (Trish) McKenney; godchildren, Jamesha Carter, Raven Jones, Danesha Jones, and Keory Jones; aunts, Irene King, Willie Mae Chambliss, and Ruth Sanders; uncles, Charlie (Minnie) Moore and Sammy Moore; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.

She will also be lovingly remembered by her special friends, Carolyn McNeal, Audrey Smith, and Angela Allgood.

In addition to her parents Faye was preceded in death by her great-granddaughter; maternal grandparents, Rosetta and William Chambliss II; sister, Willa Dent; brother, Larry Moore; aunt, Ida (Herbert) Watts; and uncles, William Chambliss III and James (Lela) Moore.

Though her earthly journey has come to an end, Faye’s legacy of faith, love, service, leadership, and family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

A Homegoing Celebration will be held, Friday, September 11, 2026, 11am at Greater Mt. Eagle Baptist Church, 929 State Street, with Reverend Joseph Pipes officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until 11 am. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.
