John E. Cook

John Edward Cook, age 91, went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 8, 2026. John was born in Racine on May 27, 1935, to John and Mathilda (nee Johansen). In early years John graduated High School in 1954 at Washington Park High School and then served in the United States Army from 1957-1959 and was honorably discharged.

He was united in marriage to Kathryn Horvath on September 19, 1959, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Together they shared 66 wonderful years, raising 2 children whom they cherish. John cared deeply about his family and delighted in spending time with them.

John was a Draftsman through his career and retired from Marlo inc. in 2007. Throughout his life John enjoyed sailing with his wife Kathryn and raced as a crew member on the boat Chaser for many years. John was a great storyteller; his family recalls his many wonderful stories especially one of him traveling to Denmark by boat with his mother at age 4. He shared great memories of travel with Kathryn’s sisters and brothers-in-law on many trips. He loved to read and was a life-long learner, and in later years became interested in ham radio. John enjoyed sharing Danish traditions, recounting stories, and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed bike riding with his son, son-in-law, and grandsons.

He attended Emmaus Lutheran Church and Racine Bible Church for many years and was a member of Harvest Community Church, where he was baptized in 2021.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother and his parents.

John was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Kathryn, son John, daughter Kristine (David) Smith, grandsons Aaron and Zachary Smith along with other relatives and friends.

A celebration of John’s Life will be held at Harvest Community Church, at 6612 South Howell Ave, Oak Creek, WI 53154 on Saturday June 20, 2026. Visitation with the family at 10:00 am, followed by a service at 10:30 am.

A service with Full Military Honors will be held on June 23, 2026, at 11:00 am at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery 21731 Spring Street, Union Grove WI 53182
