Karen S. Ayres, age 78, passed away peacefully at her residence, Tuesday, June 18, 2024. She was born in Monrovia, CA, October 5, 1945, daughter of the late, Hershel and Pansy (Nee: Harrison) Wade.

On July 6, 1963, Karen was united in marriage to Dr. Loren Ayres. Last summer they were surrounded by family and friends in celebration of their 60th anniversary. Karen was a member of La Mesa and Bostonia Church of Christ. As a young mom, Karen loved being involved with her two girls, including leading Brownie and two Girl Scout troops. Karen loved to travel, visited all 50 states, and took numerous family cruises across the globe. Close to home, she enjoyed attending local theater and musical productions. Karen’s second career was becoming an elementary school teacher in Los Angeles, Temple City, and Glendora. Karen had an artistic flair, who enjoyed painting landscapes and free-lancing in watercolors. Her love of flowers was evident with fresh bouquets especially roses, adorning her home. Above all, it was time spent with her family that she cherished most.

Karen was a devoted Wife, Mother and Grandmother (lovingly known as PopMom) and will be sadly missed by her husband, Loren; daughters, Tamee (John) Weerts, Chantil (Christopher) Ruud; grandchildren, Andrew and B Weerts, Jacob, Zach and Caitlyn Ruud; sister, Cindy (John) Slatinsky; in-laws, Dennis (Donna) Ayres, Lana Willingham, Joyce Ayres; nieces, nephews other relatives as well as many dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, Larry Ayres and Doug Willingham.

Funeral services celebrating Karen’s life will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park and Mortuary in San Diego on July 9th in the Salli Lynn Chapel. The Viewing will begin at 10:00am, the Memorial Service will begin at 11:00am. Memorials for Karen can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to one’s favorite charity.
