Life Story / Obituary
On Saturday, June 8, 2024, Kris Allen Bullock, son of Claudette Leann Bullock (Nee: Becker) and George Luther Bullock, was taken by his Heavenly Maker at 57 years of age. Although he had fought off several bouts of sepsis in the last 12 years of his life, it was that very adversary that ravaged his body and ultimately stole his life in the end.
Kris attended Washington Park High School in Racine but left early and ended up earning his GED at Gateway Technical College. It is here that he completed nearly one year of a Marketing degree, but left to pursue a full-time position in Building Maintenance, a profession he continued to work in much of his life. Later, he went back to Gateway to attain a certificate in boilers and heating to advance his career. After being deemed physically disabled, Kris once again attended college, this time in 2015 at the University of Phoenix in an online general associate degree program to become a counselor. However, recurring back infections and many bouts of sepsis forced Kris to abandon that curriculum after less than one year of study.
From a very young age, Kris was saddled with a lifetime of chronic back pain due to numerous spinal fusions. In April 2022, Kris was the victim of a hit-and-run, in which a drag-racing vehicle struck him as he was walking and nearly cost him his life. After enduring a medically-induced coma, several blood transfusions, and more than 35 surgeries, he was left bedridden and wheelchair bound. He didn't survive long enough to undergo a few more surgeries that were necessary for him to gain more mobility and independence.
Kris' inner demons of pain and addiction challenged him, his family, and his loved ones immensely throughout his life. However, he could be one of the most charming, kind, and giving people. Kris enjoyed fixing anything he could, having learned as a youngster to help his divorced mother and three sisters with repairs needed around the house, on cars and electronics, and everything in between. He found delight in reading James Patterson and Dean Koontz novels, some of them several times over. After converting to Catholicism in 2011, he also began reading the Bible extensively to try to further his understanding of his own spirituality. His quest for knowledge was voracious. Kris never stopped attempting to learn something new or furthering his knowledge base. He often had long-drawn-out discussions about the world and beyond with friends and loved ones. Kris also thought he was a comedian, often telling jokes and trying to make others laugh. His quick wit and sarcasm were disarming, and could change a challenging situation into something more peaceful or downright funny.
Kris' fondness for animals was apparent from a young age, and he never failed to help an injured creature if he came upon it. He had several pets throughout his lifetime, his favorites being a German Shepherd & Black Lab mix dog named Kya and a Chihuahua & Miniature Pinscher mix dog named Mina. Kris also had a huge passion for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and the many Marvel movies, which he watched often. Although Kris could not carry a tune to save his life, he was the first to croon his heart out if he heard any Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Def Leppard, Eminem, Linkin Park, and Creed songs. His daughter, the love of his life, is a talented vocalist, and he simply adored singing with and listening to her, something he was privy to in the last moments of his life.
Kris is survived by his family, including his sisters Kim (Filosofo) Francisco and Karla Burke, his daughter Krista L. Bullock, and her mother, Michelle Briggs, who was his significant other off-and-on for nearly 32 years. Kris also has two living sons, Joshua and Nicholas, from a previous marriage.
Kris also has surviving nieces and nephews, including Gilbert (Katie) Gonzalez, Melissa Gonzalez, Benjamin (Dawn) Francisco, Richard Francisco, and Joel (Becca) Francisco, as well as great-nephews Dominic, Oliver, and Desi in addition to great-nieces Isabella, Celia, and Loni.
Kris will be cremated and no service will be held due to his own wishes. Instead, his family, loved ones, and friends will remember him and celebrate his life in their own way. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate anyone who wants to make donations in Kris' memory to please send them to the WI Humane Society at:
