Life Story / Obituary
LaVerne J. Poplawski, age 101, passed away August 8, 2024, at Parkview Gardens, with her family by her side. She was born in Racine, February 4, 1923, daughter of the late Arthur and Nellie (Nee: Hanson) Meier.
LaVerne was a graduate of Wm. Horlick High School, “Class of 1941”. She was united in marriage to Richard J. Poplawski on August 18, 1945, who preceded her in death on September 5, 2013. In her earlier years she was a nurse’s aide. LaVerne was a long-time member and volunteer at St. Edward’s Catholic Church and the Senior Companion Program. She belonged to her card club for more than 45 years, enjoyed crocheting, crafts, flowers, gardening, birds, Door County and time shared with family and friends. She will forever be remembered for her loving and generous soul.
She was loved dearly and will be sadly missed by her children, Sr. Diane Poplawski O.P., Lyn (Robert) Matson, James Poplawski; grandchildren, Joseph (Emily) Matson, Alex Matson, grand son-in-law Josh Kosmala (Krystl); great grandchildren, Colton, Brynn, Matson and Jackson; sister-in-law, Patricia Meier; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son, Richard Poplawski, Jr., granddaughter, Krystl Kosmala, brothers and sisters-in-law Clayton (Patricia) Meier, Lloyd (Frances) Meier, and Donald Meier and daughter-in-law, Rose Poplawski.
A Memorial Mass celebrating LaVerne’s life will be held on August 16 at 11:30 am at St. Edward’s Catholic Church,1401 Grove Ave., with Rev. Bill Burkert officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family for Visitation on Friday, 10:00 am until time of Mass at the church. Private interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy. 32. Memorials to the Senior Companion Program or to St. Edward’s Catholic Church have been suggested by the family.
