LaVerne J. Thurmann

LaVerne Joyce Thurmann, age 87, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday January 1, 2025, at Aurora Medical Center-Mt. Pleasant. LaVerne was born in Racine on January 25, 1937, daughter of the late Frank and Viola (nee: Hansen) Nelson.

LaVerne attended Horlick High School “Class of 1955”. She was employed with Giovanni’s Supper Club, Kohls Grocery Store, and Pick N Save Grocery as a meat wrapper until she retired in 1999. LaVerne enjoyed attending Calvary Memorial Church. She was a 50-year member of U.C.T., auxiliary president and a 53-year member of the Eagles Club. She also volunteered with the Special Olympics. In her spare time, she enjoyed her lunch dates with her girlfriends, watching the Game Show Network and all of the Wisconsin sports teams, especially the Green Bay Packers. Through the years LaVerne loved her time spent on the baseball diamonds where she cheered on her sons and grandchildren. She will be remembered for her kindness and generosity, her Christmas cookies, and her great love and devotion to her family.

LaVerne will be dearly missed by her children, James (Terri) Thurmann, Vicky (Daniel) Marohl, Jeffrey (Cindy) Thurmann, Valerie (Edward) Otto, Veronica (Mark) Jacox; grandchildren, Andrew (Tiffani), Emily, Brandon, Anthony (Kayla), Kristina, Peter (Natasha), Shawn, Nicholas and Aaron; great grandchildren, Dylan, Daisy, Thomas, Isaiah, Sophie, Jordan, Alaynna, Isabella, Gregory, Simon, Annabel, Evan, Andi, Aria, Adalyn, Leah, Maddison, and Owen; brother, Ronald Nelson; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, LaVerne was also preceded in death by her sisters, Adeline (Edward) Stuebe and Carol (Donald) Schneider, grandson Eric Marohl and ex-spouse James Thurmann Sr.

Funeral services celebrating LaVerne’s life will be held at the funeral home, 5:00 pm Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family for Visitation on Wednesday at 3:00 until time of service at the funeral home. Private interment will be held.
