Life Story / Obituary
With her loving family by her side, Marie E. Seitz, age 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, July 31, 2013 at the Hospice House in Racine. Marie was born in Davenport, Iowa on March 16, 1929, daughter of the late Lester and Mable (nee: May) Scheef.
Marie was united in marriage to Bruce W. Seitz. After nearly fifty years together, Bruce preceded her in death in July of 1995. Marie came to Racine in 1946 after receiving employment with AT&T as a training operator. A woman of many great talents and abilities, Marie served as the State president of the PTA (1970), Director of the Model UN Program at UW-Milwaukee (1970-1980), a member of the PEO (Professional Educators Organization),and US State Department Educational Delegation to Cuba (1990), assisted at Clinical Research Services Inc. Marie was also a longtime devoted member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder, teacher and was co-founder of their Music and More program. In her spare time, she enjoyed her travels throughout the world, reading, gardening, curling and her time with friends. She will be best remembered as a loving wife and mother and dear friend, who will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her son, John Seitz of Racine; nephew, Randall (Sandra Pierce) Scheef of Racine; niece, Lori Casselbury of Menominee, MI; brothers, Ray, Dennis and John O’Toole; one grand nephew and four grand nieces; good friends, Lorry and John, Yvonne and Gary, Pat, Janet and special friend, Mya; other relatives and friends. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Lester Scheef, mother, Mable O’Toole, her infant daughter, Joan and her brother, Lloyd (Catherine) Scheef.
Per Marie’s wishes, private funeral services will be held. Memorials to the Health Care Network, Hospice House or American Cancer Society have been suggested.
