Life Story / Obituary
Marilyn Anne Bassindale, age 80, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2016, in Racine, Wisconsin. She was born in Racine on April 27, 1936, to the late George and Anne Sadlon. Her lifelong membership at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, Racine, Wisconsin, began with her baptism, blessed by an angel statue which still presides over the baptismal font.
Marilyn married her beloved Lloyd C. Bassindale on October 8, 1955, at Holy Communion Lutheran Church and recently celebrated 61 years of marriage. On their 50th wedding anniversary in 2005, they renewed their vows in Hawaii on the island of Kauai. Marilyn loved traveling with Lloyd to the Caribbean, Europe and several destinations in the United States. Her favorite places, however, were Spain and Hawaii.
Her 3 sons, Jeffrey, Jon and Jim, were a constant source of joy for her as she always made sure to watch and support them in their sports and other activities. Her wonderful cooking and baking skills, especially chocolate chip cookies, Christmas cookies and other delicious baked goods, were relished by her entire family. Every holiday and birthday was extra special with Marilyn’s extensive attention to detail. Her children, their spouses and her grandchildren were the benefactors of her love and devotion in every celebration. In addition to her baking skills were her card game skills, with Rummy as a favorite. Each grandchild spent time at Lloyd and Marilyn’s home receiving their favorite food and learning how to play cards. Those special visits were filled with laughter and her favorite treat, double-dipped malted milk balls. This wonderful experience continued with her great-grandchildren.
Marilyn was an active member of PEO-Chapter D.S. in Racine, an organization which helps young women attain higher education. She felt very fortunate to be a part of this great group of women.
She is survived by her husband Lloyd, 3 sons, Jeffrey (Nancy) of Green Bay; Jon (Colleen) of Whitefish Bay; and Jim (Lori) of West Bend; her grandchildren Jessica (Nick) Devine of Sheboygan; Joe (Ceci) Bassindale of Grand Rapids, MI; Katy Bassindale of Green Bay; Dan (Amber) Bassindale of DePere; Ellie (Mario) Morelli of Wauwatosa; Wesley Bassindale of Milwaukee; Van Bassindale of Whitefish Bay; Bowin Bassindale of Whitefish Bay; Aaron (Annie) Bassindale of Sheboygan; Sara Bassindale of Fort Bragg, CA; Lia Bassindale of West Bend; and step-grandchildren Krysta Eder of New York, NY and Gina (Daniel) Eder Diaz of Milwaukee. In addition are 14 great-grandchildren. Marilyn is further survived by her brother Richard Sadlon of Harbor Springs, MI; Jean Sadlon of Mt. Pleasant, WI; Ramona Sadlon of DePere, WI; and aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents George and Anne Sadlon and her brothers George Sadlon and Gerald Sadlon. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Sara Bassindale who provided in home care to Marilyn the past several weeks. In lieu of flowers donations to the Salvation Army or your special charity in Marilyn’s name would be appreciated.
