Martin "Marty" Andrew Baran Jr.

Martin Andrew Baran Jr. was born May 6, 1954, in Racine, Wisconsin and passed away peacefully September 20, 2026, at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee at the age of 72.

Marty was the oldest of 6 children born to Martin Baran Sr. and Audrey Baran (nee Bernhardt).

Marty graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in 1972 and began his lifelong work as a machinist with Dumore Corporation and other machine shops in Racine and surrounding areas.

Marty was an avid Packers and Brewers fan. He was also a fan of science fiction and had an encyclopedic memory for facts about classic and (not so classic) series and movies. He freely shared his passion for science fiction with his siblings and would “remind” us of upcoming Godzilla, King Kong, Dr. Who, etc. weekend marathons that he was sure we wouldn’t want to miss. No sci-fi movie or show was too bad, too campy, or too outdated to watch.

Marty enjoyed playing pool and cribbage, once drawing a perfect cribbage hand which was framed and proudly displayed.

Fishing was probably one of Marty’s favorite past-times. He especially enjoyed his fishing trips to Kentucky and on inland lakes in Racine and nearby counties.

Marty is preceded in death by his father, grandparents (Stanley and Clara Baran and Richard and Mae Bernhardt), several uncles, aunts, cousins, great niece, and dear friends.

Marty is survived by his mother, brothers Dan (Deb), Tom (Jody), Ben (Barb), and John and sister Dianne Perkins (Don).

Marty was a devoted son, brother, uncle, cousin, and steadfast friend. Although not a “regular church goer” Marty lived his faith through his actions. He was an organ donor and was matched with individuals who were able to use his kidneys and liver. Marty believed in the inherent dignity of the individual and it was not uncommon for him to “give a helping hand” to strangers he viewed as less fortunate than him.

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Marty’s life will be held at 12:00 pm, Thursday, October 1, 2026, at St. Edward Catholic Church, 1430 Grove Ave., with Rev. Timothy Sanchez officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family for Visitation on Thursday at 11:00 am until time of Mass at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family would request that friends and family do a random act of kindness for someone known or unknown in honor of Marty.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the physicians, nurses, aids, nutritionists, pharmacists, and physical and occupational therapists who staff the Froedtert Surgical Intensive Care Unit and who provided Marty with an exemplary and compassionate level of care.
