Mary Elizabeth Heinzel, born August 19, 1930, in Oquawka, IL to Lloyd McConnell and Florence Brooks. born to eternity peacefully in her sleep at home on October 15, 2024, in Racine, WI at age 94.

She married William Heinzel in 1951 and remained devoted to him until his death in 2006. She was an RN at the Burlington Medical Center in Iowa, helping to deliver babies in the OBGYN department for 28 years, and continued caring for ER patients at Mercy Hospital of Scott County, AR, until her retirement. Even in retirement she continued to give - helping serve lunches and doing blood pressure checks at her senior living community, donating her time at St. Richard Catholic Church in Racine, and gathering supplies for Teen Moms. She loved to travel by train and made many friends on her adventures across America and Canada.

She was a loving mother to 7 children, 6 of which survive her: John Heinzel, Crispina Verzal, Dave Heinzel, Math Heinzel, Moira Sage McConnell, and Frank Heinzel. She had 13 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Thomas Heinzel and husband William Heinzel.

A Memorial Mass celebrating Mary’s life will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, October 25, 2024, at St. Richard of Chichester, 1509 Grand Ave., Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family for Visitation, Friday, 10:00 am until time of Mass at the church. Private Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
