Mary Margaret Simonsen, age 80, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side Thursday, October 1, 2026. She was born in Racine, WI on March 9, 1946, the 2nd of 9 children of the late Peter and Margaret (Nee: Beres) George.

Mary graduated from St. Joseph’s Grade School and then St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1964”. On May 7, 1977 she was united in marriage to the love of her life Thomas Alan Simonsen and they were blessed with 3 wonderful children: Michael, Natalie, and Amy. Mary’s working career included a variety of places including Young Radiator Company, Gleason’s, Simonsen- Sid Nelson Agency, and most recently at Andis Company for 21 years, culminating with her retirement on April 15, 2011. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church all her life and she also taught CCD for the church for a total of 36 years. Mary loved to bake and supplied many of her famous brownies and pies to St. Joseph’s Festival. She will be remembered for her fun-loving spirit and as someone who enjoyed any excuse to dance and enjoy a party. Above all, she treasured the time spent with her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, great aunt, and friend who will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her loving husband of 49 years, Tom; son, Michael (Oksana) Simonsen; daughter, Amy Simonsen; siblings, James (Nancy) George, Timothy (Kathleen) George, Dorothy Lingard, Susan (Rick) Gehrig, Charles (Cindy) George; sister-in-law, Terry George; her best friend of over 50 years Joann Payne; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Margaret George, parents-in-law Alan Simonsen and Christina Simonsen, daughter Natalie Kay; her brothers, William George and infant twins, Joseph and Peter George, brother-in-law Kevin Lingard, and nephew Terry Tornow.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St, Friday, October 16, 2026, 11 am. with Fr. Steve Verghese officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet Thursday, October 15th at the funeral home from 4-7 pm and on Friday, October 16th at the church from 10-11 am.

Memorials to the family, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, or a charity of your choosing have been suggested.
