Mary Sigler Gehlhoff

Mary Sigler Gehlhoff, 76, cherished mother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away on July 27, 2026, at Aurora Medical Center. Born on November 12, 1949, in Racine, WI, Mary spent her life bringing love and kindness to those who knew her.

Graduating from St. Catherine’s High School and UW-Whitewater, Mary was devoted to teaching and mentoring others throughout her life. From her long career at CNH to decades of tutoring through the Racine Literacy Council, she found joy in helping others learn, grow, and succeed. Whether she was guiding a coworker, encouraging those learning English skills, or sharing her knowledge with family and friends, Mary believed that education was a lifelong journey and something to be valued throughout life. Her patience, kindness, and generosity left a lasting impact on the many lives she touched.

Mary was also an avid crafter who loved sewing, quilting, crocheting, and knitting. Over the years, she lovingly made countless blankets for her family, creating treasured keepsakes that will continue to provide comfort for years to come. She also generously shared her time and talents through the many charitable projects sponsored by Sew 'n Save of Racine, always finding joy in using her gifts to help others.

However, above all else, Mary's greatest joy was her loving family.

Mary is survived by her favorite daughter, Sarah (favorite son-in-law Jeremy) Watrud, and her favorite son, Jeffrey Gehlhoff. She is also survived by her favorite sisters, Vicki Infusino, Sandra Wangaard, and Judy Halladay; and her favorite brother, Steven (favorite sister-in-law Krista) Sigler.

She shared a special bond with all of her favorite nieces and nephews: Amy (Scott), Mark (Joan), Stacy (Brian), Amanda, Nick, Corey (Mark), Steven, Joshua (Alaina), Kimberley, Kristin, Katie (Paul), Stefany, Kelly (Brandon), and Clare. She also leaves behind many beloved great-nieces and great-nephews. And, of course, her cherished dogs, Megsie and Addie, who held a very special place in her heart.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Isabel Sigler, and by her favorite brothers-in-law, William Infusino and Kevin Wangaard.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate caregivers at Aurora Cancer Center-Racine, Aurora Medical Center-Mount Pleasant, and the dedicated staff at Ascension Living Lakeshore at Siena for the exceptional care, kindness, laughter, and dignity they showed Mary during her final weeks. Their support and compassion meant so much to Mary and to our family.

A Time of Remembering will be held at the funeral home, 11:00 am, Friday, July 31, 2026. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family for Visitation, Friday at 10:00 am until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Racine Literacy Council to support their important work in the community.
