Mathew Walter Powell

Mathew Walter Powell, age 73, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Froedtert Hospital Milwaukee. He was born in Racine, June 22, 1952, son of the late Joseph and Helen (Nee: Konicek) Powell. Mat graduated from St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1970”.

On April 10, 1980, he was united in marriage to Judith K. Mancusi. Mat was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was an avid Packer Fan who enjoyed fishing, golfing, woodworking, building furniture, and working on cars - especially his Charger. He will be remembered as being a quiet, kind, and considerate man who was the voice of reason and a mediator when needed. Above all he treasured time spent with his family - especially his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Judy; sons, Shannon Powell, Justin (Laura) Powell; grandchildren, Parker, Logan, and Ophelia; a brother, Al Barry; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Joe, Ray and Rose.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2200 Northwestern Ave, Thursday, August 28, 2025, 11 am. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 27, 5-7 pm.
