Maye H. Weyker (nee: Buchanan), 69, received the promise of eternal life on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, surrounded by her loving husband and children. She was born in New Albany, MS, on March 23, 1945, daughter of the late William and Mabel (nee: King) Buchanan. She had been a resident of Racine since 1966.

Maye was united in marriage to Thomas Henry Weyker on September 30, 1972, in Racine. Maye graduated from New Albany High School and from North East Junior College in MS with an Associates Degree in home economics.

Maye was a longtime active member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church where she served as an Eucharistic Minister and taught religious education. Maye also gave many hours at St. Sebastian’s volunteering in the church choir, which she loved, working the “white elephant”, and cooking meals for funerals. Maye also belonged to Catholic Women’s Club.

Maye had a love for spending time in her gardens, creating floral arrangements, decorating her home, creating rosemaling painting, and she loved Jazzercize. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, lunching with her friends, and shopping; but more than anything, Maye cherished time spent with her family.

Survivors include her loving husband of forty-two years, Thomas; her daughters, Tammie Weyker, Tiffany (Tyler) Cornell; her granddaughter, Miranda Cornell; brothers and sisters, Billy Buchanan, of MS, Margaret Heinze of Racine, Virginia (Edwin) McBryde, Ruth (David) Wilkinson, all of TN, Reba (Randy) Bell, Nell (Ray) Orr, Louise (Laville) McKinney, and David Buchanan, all of MS; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jerome Weyker of AZ, Pat (Jerry) Simanek of WI, Mary Hansen of CO, Jeanne Menier of FL; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.

The Weyker family would like to recognize and thank Dr. Michael Mullane and his staff for their wise and loving care throughout Maye’s illness. We’d also like to recognize Cheryl Crump and the staff at Wheaton Franciscan Cancer Center in radiation for their loving care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 3100 95th St., Sturtevant, on Friday, October 24, at 6:00 p.m., with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Friday, October 24, at the church from 4:00 p.m. until the time of Mass at 6:00 p.m.

Memorials can be sent to St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 2613 Hwy. 82 East, Greenwood, MS 38930, attn: Fr. Greg Plata, OFM.
