Life Story / Obituary

Micah Velma Groves, age 37, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on Tuesday, November 22, 2022. Micah will forever be a “daughter, sister, mother, niece, aunt and friend.”

Born in Chicago, IL, on July 4, 1985, Micah was the eldest daughter of Michael Groves Sr. and Tina Yvonne Johnson. In 2008 Micah Velma Groves accepted Christ in her life and got baptized at Glorious Light Church in Racine, Wisconsin.

While Micah’s passions and proudest memories were many, Micah was known to be most proud of the day that she graduated from Park High School (Class of 2003), the day that she became a Certified Nursing Assistant, the day that she met the love of her life, Charice Lynn Hamilton, and the day that her one and only child, Serenity Charice Tru Groves, was born.

Having a strong desire and will to live her life to its’ fullest and on her terms, Micah was passionate about many things. Micah loved cooking, dancing, shopping, music, going to fairs, picnics and anything else that allowed her to be with her family. And even though she could not swim, Micah also enjoyed going to the beach and being at the swimming pool. Not knowing how to swim did not stop her from getting in that water! Micah would grab herself a “floatie” and go for it! Micah was bold and loved having a good time.

Micah loved to sit down by the lake to think and reflect on life while enjoying the calming effect of the water and the blue sky. Micah had a very giving heart, she found herself always helping and giving to those in need. As the oldest sister she always acted as a mother-figure to her younger siblings. Giving them advice, talking to them and adamantly arguing with them when deemed necessary.

If you ask any of her nieces and nephews, Micah was the “cool Aunt.” Micah was never bothered with the notion of giving up her plans in order to care for her nieces, nephews and cousins whenever she could.

Micah was never afraid to be herself. Micah was a true trendsetter and in a league of her own. She prided herself on being a provider and protector for those she loved. She was always willing to help and do whatever was needed for her family and friends. That is just who she was. Micah took great pride and joy in knowing all of her helping hand and efforts made life “just a little bit better’ for those she loved.

Micah was also a big kid at heart and had plenty of “mothers” to run to whenever she needed some advice and guidance. Micah had her mother Tina Yvonne Johnson who gave her life, and in her own unique way gave Micah her strength. She had her “Mom” better known as “G Ma” her Grandmother Carolyn Bonds who gave Micah pride. Micah had her “Tee-tee, Auntie Kimberly Ann Stone who gave her “tough love.” And she had Auntie April Clarice St. Amant who gave her wisdom.

We, the family and friends, mourn the passing of our beloved Micah. God gave her to us as a gift. Thus, we must, painfully, return her unto the hands of the Lord being grateful for the time we shared with her.

We ask for your continued prayers for Serenity and Charice.

It was her family that she cherished most and will sadly miss her: Tina Yvonne Johnson (mother), Carolyn Bonds (Grandmother), Charice Lynn Hamilton (loving partner of 10 years), Serenity Charice Tru Groves (daughter), Tony C. Johnson (brother), Melissa C. Groves and Tyler Nicole Johnson (sisters), Sharlene W. Tyson, Remon B. Tyson, Shantel C. Burns, Gina A. Stone, Victoria M. Sterba, Jeremy C. St. Amant Jr., Jazmine S. St. Amant,

Jacob I St. Amant (cousins), Michael L. Johnson (uncle), Kimberly A. Stone and April St. Amant (Aunts) and all her extended family and friends.

Micah Velma Groves was preceded in death by her father, Michael Groves Sr., brother Michael Groves Jr., aunt Charlette D. Dearing and cousin Earl L. Tyson Jr.

Funeral services celebrating Micah’s life will be held at the funeral home, 11:00 AM, Tuesday December 6, 2022. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family for Visitation, Tuesday 10:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home. Due to Covid the family will have a private repass. Thank you!
