Life Story / Obituary
Michael R. Spinsky passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2026. Mike was born in Racine WI on September 30,1949 to Robert J. Spinsky and Eleanor D. (LaMere) Spinsky. He was the oldest of four children and grew up in a northside neighborhood chock full of kids. He attended Sacred Heart grade school, St. Catherines, Racine Horlick, and UW-Milwaukee. After graduating from UW-Milwaukee in 1971, Mike married Barbara Stroebel and had two sons, Jason and Jon. He later married Tiara Markham and helped raise two stepsons, Matthew and Patrick Markham.
Mike was active in sports throughout his youth and much of his adult life, making and maintaining friendships while playing football, baseball, and softball in the neighborhood, at Sacred Heart, Racine Horlick, UW-Milwaukee, and numerous recreational leagues in Racine. He received much recognition for his tenacity, agility, and speed as a half back and defensive back in high school and college football. That tenacity to “carry on” continued in later years when health issues began to overtake him.
Mike is survived by his sons Jason and Jon (Rebecca) Spinsky; stepsons Matt (Katie) and Patrick Markham; siblings Bob Spinsky (Yvonne Retzinger), Judy Boyson (John) and Kathy Zuelsdorff (Ned); two grandsons (Max and Clayton Spinsky) and three step-granddaughters (Parie, Natalie and Emmerlie Markham); in addition to several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eleanor and Robert Spinsky Sr.
Thank you to staff at Home Harbor Assisted Living, Elizabeth Residence and Badger Care Hospice for their care and especially to Matt Markham for being Mike’s support and advocate in his last few difficult years.
Private services will be held.
