Michelle Mary Catherine Gustin

Michelle Mary Catherine Gustin (Shelley), age 61, fought until her last breath surrounded with lots of love and family Saturday, July 18, 2026, following a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer. She was born in Racine, September 13, 1964, daughter of Donald and MaryAnn (Nee: Petri) Westman. Michelle graduated from Wm Horlick High School “Class of 1982”.

Michelle retired as a SGT. after 30 years of service with the state of Wisconsin DOC, where she was employed as a corrections officer for Ellsworth Women’s Correction facility and as a youth counselor at Southern Oaks Girls School maximum security for Juvenile Girls. She believed in treating inmates with dignity and respect. She was more of a mother and mentor to them, choosing grace and never judging. Michelle was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing BINGO on Facebook, Roma Lodge, and at the casino. She also loved playing slots. Shelley loved family trips, staying in a cabin at the Wilderness in Wisconsin Dells. Above all she loved anything that allowed time with her grandchildren. Even after retiring she quickly took a position as the lunch lady "Ms. G" for Goodland Montessori so she could be there for 2 of her grandchildren. She found that position especially rewarding as she fell in love with all the staff and students. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her mother, MaryAnn Westman; children, Savannah (David) Valencia-Kinservik, Nicholas Friend; grandchildren, Ariana, Victor III, Giavanna, Aubree, and Jaxson; brother, Joseph Westman; sister, Angela (Miguel) Nunez; many other relatives and so many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Westman.

Funeral Services will be held at the Maresh-Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home, 803 Main Street, Saturday, July 25, 2026, 12 pm Noon with Rev. John Roekle officiating. Relatives and friends may meet prior to the service 10 am – 12 pm.
