With her family by her side, Mildred “Dixie” J. Neider, age 98, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 19, 2025, at St. Monica’s Senior Living. Dixie was born on a farm in LaGrange, WI on August 24, 1926, to Ben Dixson and Minnie Schoenemann. She moved to Racine as a young teen and lived the rest of her life here.

After waiting several years for him to return from WWII, she married Walter Max Neider on December 22, 1945, at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Racine.

In the late 60s Dixie and her husband were co-owners of the Union Bus Station and Coffee Shop in downtown Racine where they employed all of their children and spouses at one time or another. That business evolved into Neider Travelway which continues today as Meetings and Incentives Worldwide.

Dixie was the loving mother of Ronald (Kathryn) Neider, Daniel (Nancy) Neider and Randal Neider. She was Grandmother to Natalie (Brian), William (Lisa), Jean (Danny), Tina (Paul), Jenny (Chad), Jill (Corey) and Scot. She was also Great Grandma to Alex, Samuel, Emily, Abigail, Nick, Maddy, Tess, Robert, Sophie, Anne, Audrey and Kate. Dixie was blessed to be Great Great Grandma to Chase, Chandler, Josephine, Adelaide and Emilia.

In addition to her time spent with family, Dixie was an avid sportswoman. She enjoyed swimming, tennis, horseback riding, racquetball and golf. She had a competitive nature and enjoyed practicing to be the best. She loved her flower garden and also raised some impressive vegetables which she generously shared with her neighbors at Fountain Hills Apartments.

Dixie was a wonderful cook, a talented decorator and a fabulous hostess. Everyone enjoyed special occasions at her home…especially Christmas! Her secret recipe popcorn balls are legend.

Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter, beloved son Randal and many other relatives. According to Dixie’s wishes, a private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Special thanks to the wonderful staff at St. Monica’s Senior Living for their love and compassion in the last 4 years of Dixie’s life. They became her family and she felt safe and content in their care. Thanks also to St. Croix Hospice who gently cared for Dixie in her last several days. You made the transition easier. And to Al who faithfully fed her lunch every Monday.

Please direct memorials to St. Monica’s Senior Living, 3920 North Green Bay Road, Racine WI 53404 in Dixie’s name.
