Life Story / Obituary

Miriam “Mimi” Susan Hynek, loving mother, sister, grandmother, “Great Mimi,” and devoted Registered Nurse, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025. Born on October 20, 1940, to Rev. Martin and Marie Cizmar. Mimi spent her life caring for others with compassion, grace, and quiet strength—both in her nursing career and in her relationships.

She was a proud graduate of Racine Lutheran High School, Class of 1958, and earned her nursing degree from Augustana Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1961, beginning a lifelong vocation of caring for others.

Mimi was the cherished mother of Christine Barber (Kevin) and Katie Fox (Scott), and beloved sister of Kathy Hagemann. She was the proud grandmother of Anne Harrop (Jeremy), Rachel Mianecki (Ethan), Daniel Barber, Miranda Richio, and Maddie Westra (Ben), and the adored “Great Mimi” to Amelia Mianecki, Caroline Harrop, Lily Harrop, Tenni Harrop, Blaise Mianecki, Violet Mianecki, and Olivia Mianecki.

She was blessed with many dear friends—Pat and Steve, Don and Nancy, Terry and Judy, Jeff, Luan, Loretta and Ken, Roberta, Marie and Perry—some of whom were there to greet her as she entered her eternal rest.

Mimi’s gentle heart, steady presence, and deep love for her family and friends touched all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of generosity, kindness, service, and unwavering devotion.

The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice and Parkview Gardens Memory Care for their kind and compassionate care over the years. A special deep thanks to Leslie, Kyla, and Walinda.

Christian services will be held on Friday, December 12, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1501 Erie Street, Racine, WI 53402, with Rev. Jack Gilbert officiating. Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM until the time of service at 4:00 PM.
