Life Story / Obituary
Myrna M. Olesen, age 91, of Racine passed away peacefully at her residence, October 31, 2024. She was born in Chicago, October 30, 1933, daughter of the late Edward and Lydia (Nee: Thoede) Nelson.
She was a graduate of Racine Lutheran High School, “Class of 1951”. On June 14, 1952, she was united in marriage to Raymond C. Olesen, who preceded her in death on August 28, 2011. Along with her husband and family Myrna owned and operated O&H Danish Bakery. Myrna will forever be remembered for her family values, her attention to detail, and her artistic cake decorating.
Myrna enjoyed golfing with Ray and their friends throughout the country and playing golf as a member of the Ive’s Grove Women's Golf Club. Myrna loved to “hygge” with friends and family while enjoying a slice of Pecan Kringle with a hot cup of coffee. Her pastimes included quilting, sewing and knitting along with learning various other crafts. She enjoyed spending winters in St. George, Utah, with the beautiful mountain vistas and high desert climate, before moving to Florida several years ago to be closer to family. Above all, spending time with her children and their family’s is what Myrna cherished most.
Myrna was loved dearly and will be sadly missed by her sons, Michael (Mary) Olesen, Eric (Lisa) Olesen and daughter-in-law, Robin Olesen; Grandchildren, Carly (Patrick) Brady, Kevin (Angi) Olesen, Mallory (David) Willing, Alyson (Matthew) Horton, Peter (Kimberly) Olesen, Ashley Olesen, Nathan Olesen; 12 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Janet Thomsen; nieces, nephews other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parent’s and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Dale, siblings, Edward (Phyllis) Nelson, Byron (Mary) Nelson, Enola (Don) Loomis, Rhoda (Herman) Schwarze, Randy (Penny) Nelson, in-laws, Alfred Thomsen and Patricia (Joseph) Masik.
A Memorial Service celebrating Myrna’s life will be held at 11:30 am, Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, 2000 W. Sixth St., with Rev. Mark Doidge officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family for Visitation, Wednesday, 10:00 am at the church until time of service. Private interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials to Racine Lutheran High School and Holy Communion Lutheran Church have been suggested by the family.
