At peace, Neil William Loomis, 03/23/25

Neil was born on May 20, 1943, in Auburn, New York. He was the son of the late Virgil G. and Dorothy C. (Nee: Hunt) Loomis. He grew up a “free range child” in Rose Hill, NY and later moved to Marcellus, NY where he graduated from MHS class of 1961. He served in the Air Force from 1961-1965 and graduated from Stetson University with degrees in Physics and Business. He was employed by the General Electric Aerospace division in Daytona Florida and later transferred to GE Medical Systems in Milwaukee where he received many patents for his work with their Magnetic Resonance and Computed Tomography systems. He later joined Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago and was involved with the creation of their non-invasive diabetic testing devices. He had countless inventions and was a man of many talents that could always find an answer to a problem and build an easy solution to any issue.

With help from his determined co-pilot, daughter Kirsten, his courageous battle with cancer was marked by incredible resilience and determination, and through it all, he continued to embrace life with grace, gratitude, humor and a positive attitude. Without Kirsten this wouldn’t have been possible, and she has our unending love and appreciation.

His greatest joys were spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He had an extraordinary love for his pets including his German Shepherds, feline friends, Norwegian Elkhounds and more recently, his Siberian Huskies.

He loved fast cars and slow boats. He served the Fifth Street Yacht Club as Commodore and enjoyed the friendships, celebrations, boat trips across Lake Michigan and shared good times with the many marina companions.

Neil is survived by his wife, Kathy, daughters Kim Engibous (Bill) of Muskego, Karla Kukowski (Dave) of Duluth, Kirsten Loomis (Milan), and son, Neil Loomis, of Racine. He was blessed with 12 Grandchildren, Anna (Travis) Vandewater, Shannon Conroy, Kade Kukowski, Abigail (Josh) Veroeven, Bryton Kukowski, Jessie Kukowski, Vaun Kukowski, Katija Milicevic, Natalija Milicevic, Anya Loomis, Kailyn Loomis, Declan Loomis, brother in law Samuel S Rogers (Maria Paz)of Dallas, Texas and sister in law Barbara Rogers of Milan, Italy, sister Mary Jane Walker, former wife Fran Loomis, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many cherished friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Sharon Corr, Patricia Chapman and Jacqueline Thompson, his brother, Sandy Loomis, his brother-in-law, Dr. Peter V Rogers, and parents-in-law Samuel and Agnes Rogers.

We would like to thank our special friends, Larry Fales, Erin and Mike Nielsen for sharing the many boating, cookouts and RV experiences with Neil until the end. Thanks for the memories!

Special thanks to Dr. Thomas Giever and the Drexel Town Square Cancer Center staff and Dr. Naveet Bal, Froedtert Hospital for their fastidious attention to his care and all of the great memories in his journey.

A Memorial Service celebrating Neil’s life will be held at 4:00 pm, at the funeral home, on Friday April 4, 2025. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family for Visitation, on Friday at 3:00 pm until time of service at the funeral home.
