Life Story / Obituary
Patricia “Pat” Goebel, age 87, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Aurora Medical Center Mt. Pleasant, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Racine to James and Gladys (Miller) Wise, Pat graduated from Washington Park High School in 1956 and married the love of her life, Douglas Goebel, in 1958. Together, they shared 67 years of marriage, building a life filled with love, laughter, devotion, and family.
Pat was known for her gentle spirit, her deep sense of loyalty, and her quiet but fierce love for her family and friends. For many years, she worked as the bookkeeper for Waukesha Schwinn Cyclery, the family business, supporting Doug behind the scenes with dedication and skill. Pat also volunteered alongside her husband at the Roma Lodge, helping with everything from distributing raffle tickets to managing annual member dues and pitching in at countless events.
Pat’s hands were rarely still—she was an avid gardener, finding joy and peace among her flowers and tomatoes, and she loved nothing more than watching her garden flourish year after year. She was also a lifelong Wisconsin sports fan, never missing a chance to root for the Badgers, Brewers, Bucks, or Packers.
Pat’s true passion, however, was her family. She was a loving wife to Doug, a devoted mother to Elizabeth (Richard) Capponi and Suzy (Marty) Goebel, and a proud grandmother to Joseph (Emily), Lexi, and Josh Capponi. Her home was always open, her table always welcoming, and her heart always big enough for everyone who needed her. She was the quiet force that held everyone together.
Pat and Doug shared not only a loving marriage, but a sense of adventure and fun. They took ballroom dancing lessons and were members of a dance club. They also were longtime members of a bridge club, treasuring evenings filled with friends, laughter, gourmet meals and friendly competition. Pat enjoyed those shared moments as much as the family celebrations, always finding joy in both the quiet and lively corners of life.
She will be deeply missed by all her family and friends. Pat’s memory will live on in the kindness she shared and the lives she touched.
A memorial service celebrating Pat’s life will be held at 3:00 pm at the funeral home, Friday, April 24, 2026, with Rev. Steve Varghese officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family for Visitation, Friday from 1:00 pm until the time of service.
Memorials may be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause close to her heart.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Pat’s caregivers, Patty, Wendy, Ruth, and her daughters for their loving and compassionate support during her final months.
