Phillis Ann Gleason

Phillis A. Gleason, age 95, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026 at her home. She was born in October, 1930 in Adyeville, IN, the daughter of Alva and Lizzie McKim. Phillis married a handsome sailor, Marvin Gleason, Sr. on February 8, 1947 in DeKalb, IL. Marvin & Phillis were married for 68 years.

In 1950 Marvin & Phillis started a concrete construction business, M Gleason Contractors, retiring in 1977 and they moved to Tampa, FL. They returned to Racine in 1990. Phillis loved to hunt and fish. She shot more deer than anyone else in the family. She loved spending time at their hunting cabin up north and going to the casino.

Phillis was an exceptional cook and was famous for her fried chicken and homemade fritters. She baked fresh bread and yeast rolls that were the envy of anyone that was lucky enough to have them. Her homemade jellies and jams were a special treat.

Phillis is survived by her sons, Marvin, Jr (Kim), Mark (Jo), and daughter Connie (Chuck) Brandt all of Racine. She is further survived by her grandchildren Bridget (Dave) Nieman, Christopher (Kristen) Nelson, Heidi Nelson, Marvin, III (Stacey) Gleason, Mistie (Matt) Cottrill, Morgan (Rich) Bialecki, Jamey Gleason, Laura Gleason, Audrey Tarvainen, Charley (Kathie) Brandt, Corey (Kristal) Brandt, Christine (Ed) Grochowski, and 19 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Phillis was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, daughter Judy Nelson, her parents, her in-laws, Joseph & Emma, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and a great-great- granddaughter, Sophia.

Visitation will be held at the Maresh-Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home, 803 Main St. Thursday, August 13, 2026, 9-11 am with a service at 11 am with Reverend Ralph Scherer officiating. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at Primrose Retirement Community and the staff of Hospice Alliance for their compassionate care of Phillis.
