Richard Matthew Figura, age 84, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, February 13, 2025. Richard was born in Chicago, IL on September 15, 1940, son of the late Matthew and Marie (ne: Kotarba) Figura.

Richard graduated from DePaul University with a degree in accounting and then married the love of his life, Jeanne A. Benn. They shared over 50 years together before Jeanne preceded him in death. Richard was employed with different firms throughout his career and was vice-president of Lyman Lumber before retiring. After retirement, he volunteered for the AARP, preparing taxes for free and instructing other volunteers.

He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp. Later in life, Richard was a member of the Marine Corp League Honor Guard and participated in over 200 funerals honoring his fellow members of the armed services. He was thrilled to go on the Honor Flight to Washington, DC last September.

Richard was a man of many hobbies, including coin collecting, camping, hunting, snowmobiling, sailing, boating, cooking, marksmanship, reading, furniture making, carpentry, golfing, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his generosity and desire to help others.

Richard was a devoted husband and father who will be dearly missed by his daughter, Denise Ketterer; son, Eric (Christy Cutting) Figura; grandchildren, Danielle (Adam) Tiffany and Logan (Courtney) Ketterer; one great grandchild, Weston and one on the way; sisters, Kathy (Conrad) Wrobel and Gloria Winn; sister-in-law, Judy Figura; niece Michelle (Mike) Szadorski, nephews Jim (Romina) Figura, Mike (Lisa) Winn, and Jason Winn, special friends John and Diane Salazar, Keith and Melody Owsley, and other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, Richard was also preceded in death by his brother, Donald.

A private family ceremony was held after his passing. Graveside services with Full Military Honors will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials to starsandstripeshonorflight.org have been suggested.

The family extends a special thank you to Leslie and everyone at Parkview Gardens for their loving and compassionate care.
