A Life of Love, A Legacy of Presence
Robin Marie Coleman Lawton, affectionately known as Marie to all, was born on December 23, 1963, in Racine, Wisconsin, to Clyde and Matilda Coleman. Beautiful, charming, resourceful, and unapologetically herself, lived a life defined not by conventional accomplishments, but by the love she gave and the lives she touched.
At just 16, Marie became a mother to her only son, LaQuan Scott, her spitting image and greatest joy. Though life presented its share of challenges, her love for her son never wavered. With determination and her signature make-it-happen attitude, she often found ways to make the impossible possible.
Marie’s love for her family extended deeply to her siblings. The bond she shared with her brothers and sisters was an important part of her life. Through life’s joys, hardships, and everything in between, her love for them remained. Family was never about perfection for her; it was about connection, loyalty, and being there for one another.
To many of her nieces and nephews, Marie was far more than an aunt. She was a second mother, a safe place, and a constant source of love and normalcy. Whether combing hair, wiping noses, attending school events, or simply lending a listening ear, she was present. Caregiving was not merely something she did; it was who she was.
Her legacy lives in the countless people she loved, cared for, and made feel important.
Marie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Clyde and Matilda Coleman; her husband, Sidney Lawton; her brothers, Darrell, Mark, Gary, and Terron; and her sisters, Mottie and Angela.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted son, LaQuan Scott; brothers, Samuel and Jamie; sisters, Rosemary, Sandy, and Kari; brother-in-law, Earl; special friend, Al; special nephew, D’arie; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends whose lives were touched by her love.
As we celebrate Marie’s life, she would want us to remember her authentically by her charm, her unmistakable personality, and the stories that will forever bring laughter through our tears.
A mother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend, she leaves behind a legacy that reminds us:
You do not have to live a perfect life to leave a beautiful legacy.
Rest peacefully, Marie. You showed up for us. Now, your love will carry us forward.
