Life Story / Obituary
Former Evansville resident, Roger Rasmussen, 81, died September 26th, 2011 at Hospice of Arizona in Peoria, AZ with his family by his side. He was born November 23rd, 1929 in Janesville, WI to Arthur Rasmussen and Maude (Anderson) Rasmussen.
During high school, he worked for his father at the family service station, then joined the Army National Guard and later the Air Force where he served at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas as an instructor during the Korean War. He worked for many years in the Evansville Post Office, but most loved the time he spent as owner and operator of his own fertilizer company. Even when he sold the business, he stayed on as manager and often fondly recalled the years he spent as a member of the Evansville area farming community. He was proud of both his membership in the Evansville FFA and American Legion. After retirement, he moved to Surprise, AZ in 1994. Roger was hardworking, fair, friendly, and loyal. He accumulated countless friends and enlivened many parties. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Roger is preceded in death by his wife Audrey (Schnettgoecke) Rasmussen, and sister Ellen (Don) Taplin. Roger is survived by son Randy (Sheri) Rasmussen, daughter Marla (Peter) Andersen, daughter Susan (Dale) Mertely, and son Steven (Jessica) Rasmussen, along with grandchildren Joshua, Jessica, Axel, Spencer, Anthony, Evelyn, and great-grandchildren Jordan, Kaleigh, and Breleigh. He is also survived by his brothers Richard (Janice) and Robert (Anna) Rasmussen, and sister, Sharon Elmer; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, other relatives and dear friends.
