Life Story / Obituary
Sandra E. Monefeldt (nee: Konik), age 87, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, June 17, 2025. Sandy was born in Curtiss, WI on January 24, 1938, daughter of the late Paul and Florence (nee: Hazen) Konik.
After graduating high school, Sandy attended UW Eau Claire and earned her degree in elementary education. For the rest of her life she dedicated herself to teaching, early on having her own classroom, then being a substitute, then volunteering at the Racine Literacy Council. Her desire to nurture and guide were exemplified in all she did. On June 28, 1969, she found her life’s joy as she married Timothy Monefeldt at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Racine. Their membership and dedication to the church stretched many decades, with Sandy holding the role of Director of Parish Education as well as various positions on the church board over the years.
Sandy’s talent of organization was ever-present as she coordinated water stops on the Lighthouse Run route and was an integral part of the neighborhood’s annual block parties. She made numerous trips to Europe, first with her mother before marriage and again with her family years later to visit relatives in England. Nearer to home she enjoyed the family’s yearly trips to northern Wisconsin. She and Tim were season ticketholders to the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and a visit to the Monefeldt house, planned or impromptu, was met with classical music playing. This lifelong love of music was passed on to their sons.
Sandy will be remembered for her generosity, her infectious, chuckling laugh, her enjoyment of being teased, her sass and strength, and her love of knick knacks. She never passed up an opportunity to browse a gift shop or rummage sale. Her deepest love however was her family and close friends whom she cherished.
She will be dearly missed by her sons, John (Deborah) Monefeldt of Racine, Andrew (Anna) Monefeldt of Ypsilanti, MI; sister-in-law Linda (Billy) Tillet of Richmond, KY; her granddaughters-at-heart Jamillah and Amina; loving nieces, nephews, and many other dear relatives and friends that span the nation and the globe. In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her husband Tim and brother Gary Konik.
The family extends a special thank you to her friend Jodi Cottingham for the love, humor, and support she brought to Sandy’s life in recent years. Additional thanks are extended to the staff at Ascension All Saints ICU and 3D and Hospice Compassus for their wonderful care.
At Sandy’s request, a small, private interment will be held at Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Sandy and Tim’s years of generosity, please consider a memorial to Lutheran Church of the Redeemer or to a charity of your choice.
