Life Story / Obituary
Shirley Mae Schlichting, age 90 passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at St. Monica’s Senior Living. She was born in Racine, WI, February 18, 1936, and was the daughter of the late Edward and Eva (nee: Boudreau) Santarelli. She was a graduate of St Catherine's High School, “Class of 1954”.
On May 21st, 1955, she was united in marriage to Donald J Schlichting who preceded her death on February 3, 2008. Shirley enjoyed and will be remembered for knitting beautiful blankets for her family and friends. She also enjoyed taking trips up north and stopping at the casinos. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and their families. She is deeply loved and will be sadly missed by her family, friends and the residents of St Monica's.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter Katherine (Ray) Schlichting; great granddaughter Angel; sister Jeanete (Cory) Mason; and in-laws, Bill Olson and Dick (Pat) Schlichting.
Surviving is her son Kurt (Wendy) Schlichting; grandchildren Ashley Greene, Kyle (Mallory) Schlichting, and Cassie (Zack) Silvasi; great grandchildren, AyVion, A'liyah, Avery, A'laysia, Harper, Emma, Copper, Georgia and Truett; sister-in-law, Darlene Olson; special family friends, the Sharkey families; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at Maresh-Meredith and Acklam Funeral Home, 803 Main St., Monday, May 4, 2026, 12pm with Deacon Eloy Contreras officiating. Relatives and family may meet prior to the service 11 am – 12 pm. Private interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32.
A special thankyou to her nieces Lynn (Lenny) Tometczak and Jan (Greg) Berlin for your time, shopping trips, phone calls etc. and for decorating her room so that it was the envy of all at St. Moncia's. Special thankyou to Stephany, and the entire staff at St. Monica's, along with her many friends, for making her time there so wonderful. She always said you took such great care of her!
