Life Story / Obituary
Sister Cecile Boehmer, O.P., 99, passed away at Siena Center, Racine, on Monday June 2, 2025.
Marion Louise was born April 10, 1926 to Arthur and Harriet (nee: Conger) Boehmer in Madison, WI. On September 4, 1944 she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1945 she was given the religious name Sister Cecile. She professed her first vows in 1947 and her final vows in 1953.
Sister Cecile spent many years in service to others in teaching. She began her ministry in 1946 at St. Joseph, Racine. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were St. Victor, Monroe; St. Mary, St. Catherine High School, Dominican College and the Medical Engineering Corporation, Racine; St. Sebastian, Sturtevant; and University of WI - Parkside, Kenosha. From 1976-1995 she taught biology at Alice Lloyd College, Pippa Passes, Kentucky. She also served in New Mexico and Michigan. In 1995 she became a resident at Siena Center and did community service and later volunteered at the Racine Zoo. For many years she played the drums in the Siena Center Orchestra.
Sister Cecile is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her brother Paul (Sally) her sister Joan Boehmer; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers John and Robert and her sisters Shirley Paepke and Donna Rimmey.
A Remembering Service will be at 8:45 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:15 am in the Siena Center Chapel on Tuesday June 10. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Outreach have been suggested.
