Life Story / Obituary
Sister Evelyn Lins, O.P., 95, passed away at Siena Center, on September 14th, 2025.
Evelyn Mary was born October 7, 1929 to John J. and Rose (nee: Hetzel) Lins in Plain, WI. On September 5, 1944 she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1947 she was given the religious name Sister Elizabeth. She professed her first vows in 1949 and her final vows in 1955. In 1968 she returned to using her baptismal name, Evelyn.
Sister Evelyn spent many years in service to others in education as a teacher, principal and tutor. She began her ministry in 1949 at Sacred Heart, Racine. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were Holy Name and St. Edward, Racine; and St. Andrew, Verona. She played a key role in founding the Bethany Apartments, Racine and was the first Director from 1990-1994. She served as President of the Racine Dominicans from 1994-1998. After her term as president she served as a consultant and assistant at Bethany Apartments. In her later years she became a tutor and was a volunteer at the Eco-Justice Center and the Siena Retreat Center. She moved to Siena Center in 2017.
Sister Evelyn is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her brother Daniel (Teresa) Lins and sisters Barbara (Paul) Johnson and Marian (Stan) Schrank; brother-in-law Daniel Harp; sister-in law Sue Lins; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and her brothers Donald, John, Ralph and Rev. James Lins and sisters Florence and Mary Lins, Betty Brokish, Bernadine Limmex, Donna Golner and Virginia Harp.
A Remembering Service will be at 8:45am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:15am in the Siena Center Chapel on Monday September 22nd, 2025. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Outreach have been suggested.
The Racine Dominicans would like to extend their thanks to the Supportive Living and Hospice Alliance staff who cared for Sister Evelyn at Siena Center.
