Sister Rita Lui, O.P., 89, passed away at Siena Center, on February 4th, 2026.

Rita Mary Lui was born December 22, 1936 to Aloys and Anna (nee: Beres) Lui in Racine, WI. On September 13, 1954 she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1955 she was given the religious name Sister Alice Ann. She professed her first vows in 1957 and her final vows in 1963. In 1968 she returned to using her baptismal name, Rita.

Sister Rita spent many years in service to others in teaching. After teaching she was engaged in various ministries including the role of Vice President of the Racine Dominicans for 8 years, Formation Director for the Racine Dominicans, and a director of religious education and adult formation across WI. She began her ministry in 1958 at Holy Angels, Milwaukee. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were St. Benedict High School and Urban Day, Milwaukee; St. John, South Milwaukee; Siena Center, Racine; St. Olaf Parish, DeForest; and St. Bernard Parish, Middleton. From 1991-2011 she was the Director of the Racine Dominican Retreat Program and she continued to work in the retreat program until 2022. She also served in Center Line and Detroit, MI.

Sister Rita is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her sister Carol (Thomas) Thelan, her sister-in-law Mary Lui; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother Jerome Lui.

A Remembering Service will be at 8:45am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:15am in the Siena Center Chapel on Tuesday February 17th, 2026. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Outreach have been suggested.
