Another angel received her wings. Vanessa Oliver, age 62, passed away on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at Ascension All Saints Hospital after a short and courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born in Racine on June 4, 1959 the fourth daughter of James Otis Oliver, Sr. and Gloria Helen (nee: Petty) Oliver. As a twin she was affectionately called ‘sister 2’ by her family.

Vanessa attended J.I. Case High School and Gateway Technical College where she completed a travel agent certificate. Vanessa was employed by Amazon as a fulfillment associate at the time of her death. She worked for Pierce Transit in Tacoma, WA for 20 years as a bus driver. Vanessa’s generous spirit was displayed when she annually handed out holiday gifts to her passengers.

She also worked at Linc Logistics, Ross Stores Distribution Center, and Brown and Haley Factory Store.

Vanessa loved life, her family and friends and most importantly she had a heart of gold. She was the life of every event and her genuine laugh was heartfelt. Vanessa was small in stature, but she was a force to be reckoned with. She wasn’t always politically correct in her delivery of information, but she was usually correct in her assessment of the situation. On a beautiful day you could find Vanessa on her hammock basking in the sun.

Vanessa loved to travel, shop for unique attire and jewelry, and spend time with family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, decorating and dressing to impress from head to toe. Her shoe collection wasn’t as expansive as Imelda Marcos’ but she gave her a run for her money. To say Vanessa had an extraordinary unique style would be an understatement.

Vanessa leaves to cherish her memories her son, Devon Gatson; grandchildren, Dejzonte’, Ashyria, and Symiah Gatson, Tacoma, WA; mother Gloria Oliver; siblings, Artis Oliver,Tacoma, WA, Alice Oliver, twin sister Valerie Oliver, James O. Oliver, Jr., Kenneth (Dorothy) Oliver, Rickey (Markie) Person, all of Racine, WI, Keoana Oliver, San Diego, CA, step - brother Andre Bryant, Baton Rouge, LA, special cousin Wanda Tucker, step-mother Marie Oliver, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, James O. Oliver, Sr.; step- sister Shenita Bryant; eight uncles and two aunts.

In keeping with Vanessa’s wishes private services were held. Friends and family are invited to meet at Infusino’s Banquet Hall, 3201 Rapids Drive on Wednesday, August 11 at 5 p.m. for a Life Celebration Dinner.

We the family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Syed Hassan, Dr. Lewis Rosenberg, and the doctors and staff of Ascension All Saints Hospital Cancer Center for their loving and compassionate care provided to our loved one. We also wish to thank family and friends for all you did to console our hearts during this difficult time. God Bless you all!
