Walter Michael Hayek, Jr., age 86, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Oak Ridge Care Center, Union Grove. He was born in Racine, August 21, 1937, son of the late Walter and Irene (Nee: Marco) Hayek.

Walter graduated from St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1955”. On May 24, 1958, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary F. Aceto and they were together for 55 years when Mary passed on October 13, 2013. Walter was employed for 10 years at American Motors Corp and retired from SC Johnson after over 25 years. Walter’s passion was fishing be it on the water or on the ice. He was a member of Salmon Unlimited and enjoyed Salmon-A-Rama. He also enjoyed sport cars and going to the races at Road America. Most of all Walter treasured the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his children, Walter A. (Cheryl) Hayek III, Shelly (Jeff) Hanson, Dana Miller; grandchildren, Brittany Hayek, Natashia Hanson, Ryan (Heather) Hanson; great granddaughters; Brooke and Quinn Hanson; other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by sisters, Helen (Hilli) Anderson, Millie Hayek; and a son-in-law, Chuck Miller and grandson, Walter Steven Hayek IV.

A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday July 23, 2024, 5:00 p.m. Private inurnment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet prior to the service 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Memorials to St. Jude’s Research Hospital have been suggested.
